End of Summer Break

My exchange is about halfway done, and today is my last day of summer vacation. I ate out with my host sister and got ready for my first day of school. So no Dad, I didn't waste my last day. While my summer vacation was in general slow, I was able to go out with friends and family and enjoy the calmness. Yesterday, I went shopping for school supplies with my friend. I got notebooks, a binder, post-its, etc. Of course, we had to stop by and get food too.

Since I am in the senior class here, it is our ¨last first day of school¨, so we are going to have a celebration. I'm excited to see my teachers and my friends that I didn't meet with during break. I don´t know what the classes are going to look like and how much I will be able to participate, but I will figure that out with my teachers and I will do my best.

One event was that last week, I went with a friend of mine and her host family on a day trip to the towns Capiatá and Aregurá. In Capiatá, we visited the mythological museum Ramón Elías. The museum had statues from Guaraní mythology, and had various artifacts from the colonization. The statues were of prominent figures is Guaraní myth and legend, based on other cultures' stories like werewolves and leprechauns. Many were created to scare children into behaving. As creepy as they were, the details of the statues were impressive.

In Aregurá we got to see the beautiful town, saw the church, and had a merienda. We later drove back to my friend's house where we watched a movie and had dinner.

I've been talking with my family in Colorado and Arizona once in a while, and it's nice to hear stories and news. My next post will probably be about starting school again, so stay tuned!

  1. Nice! That's a good dose of local culture - I like the monster statues. How old is the cross? Looks very historical

  3. Excellent! Last first day…. Have someone take your picture. Thanks for sharing your adventure, unless there’s a traveling exhibit this is stuff I’ll never see in person.
