October Dump

    I know that I said I´ll post more often, I just need to find things to post about. I have now been in Paraguay for a little over 2 months. I had a rocky start and there have definitely been ups and downs, but as I am getting into a rhythm and am getting more comfortable, there are fewer downs. I still have to work on my communication with my family, but I feel like I am making good progress with that considering my mental well-being (which I am also working on).

    I tried to do Inktober this year, but it didn't last long. It was fun nonetheless and I think my pictures turned out well considering I have never drawn in pen before.

    

        
    

    Not much is happening lately; I spend most of my time at school where I have made friends inside and outside of my class. I don't understand the lessons very well, but I am trying to follow the lectures and take down notes.

    On the weekends and after school, I have slow days where I stay at home and do stuff on my computer, or I go out with my host mom or my host sister. I have attended 2 birthday parties of child family members and I have gone to a few dinners/meriendas with my sister and her friends.

    

    

    One fun event that took place was that I went to Bier Fest with my family on Friday (October 28). There was a lot of beer and other alcoholic beverages, but I just drank soda (can't say the same for my mom, though). It was very crowded and we had to find seats since my parents hadn't reserved a table beforehand. Throughout the evening, they played music and later had a Queen tribute band play live. We didn't stay for very long as we were tired, the space was very crowded, and my mom was drunk after 2 glasses of wine. So no Keith, I didn't get to hear them play either of our favorite songs. I personally enjoyed the event and my sister got to take home a Freddy Mercury beer mug.

    

    

    I hope more big events come up so I can post about them, but things are going calmly and slowly here. I miss you all back at home, and I wish I could have been there to support all my friends through troubling times. Remember, you can always talk to me.

    I'm glad to see a new post. It doesn't always have to be big events, just daily life is also part of the adventure and I enjoy reading about it. I love the pictures too, and you did a great job with the drawings (including the mouse). I miss you too, and I'm so proud of you, te amo!

    Drawings look very nice. Can you draw an elf? How about a good space battle scene?
    Just asking. Classes for exchange students are often challenging. I hope you fam is helping.

    It’s nice to hear about daily activities. What classes are you taking? What is your favorite? Least favorite?

    What is the weather like?

    Here, Christmas stuff is going up in stores, what about there?

    What cultural differences do you notice? You’re on an adventure, it’ll be over before you know it.

    Your drawings are very good. Keep doing them.

June Update

     June has been a busy month with school, events, outings, and the anticipation for my departure. I have just short of 3 weeks left in Paraguay. We're entering winter here, so some leaves are turning dark and are falling. We had one week of decent coldness, like typical November cold, but it didn't last long. A few trees are blooming flowers. My departure date has been pushed back to the 19th of July. Next week is my last normal week of school; after that we have a tournament during the first week of July, and vacations after that.     On June 2nd, I went to San Juan at my host brother's school. San Juan is a traditional holiday held on June 24th, but is celebrated throughout the whole month. Schools and communities hold festivals with games, music, dancing, and food. Very Short June Blog Post

     While today wasn't my last week of school, it was my last week of normal classes.      Today was calm. I got the results of my biology test from yesterday (15/19), I spent the day with my friends, and in the afternoon my classmates took a Spanish test so I was able to get some free time during that.      We also did more practice for the upcoming tournament. Each course has to do a dance presentation. We still have to work out some small parts, but it's pretty good if I do say so myself. I'm excited to perform and also just for the tournament in general. Next week, I'll bring my flag for my classmates to sign. Afterwards, I will have a week and a half left in Paraguay.

School Has Started!

    Last Friday (the 17th) was my first day of school, or as we all called it, ultimo primer dí a. I ' m in the senior class at my school and this was their last first day. When I arrived at school and went to our classroom , it was filled with students and teachers greeting each other, and parent volunteers passing out shirts, filling balloons, and setting up the food. Once everyone showed up, all the senior classes got into line for our grand entrance. We were given balloons, smoke flares, and noise makers. One by one, the classes walked onto the soccer field.      Once we were all there, the principal and school pastor began giving speeches. I didn ' t understand them or really listen, but I got the gist: be good students, have a good year, and be upstanding Christians.
