Two Day Camp With 3rd Class
It is a tradition at my school that the 3rd grade (12th in the US), go to a camp for 2 days to get away from school, have fun, and have very long masses. Last week, on Thursday and Friday, we went to that camp. Since I am in the 2nd class (11th grade), I won't be able to go to the camp with my own class. Therefore, I went this year instead.
We left the school on Thursday morning and took busses to the campsite. Many of us slept during the ride, as well as talk and eat snacks. The grounds were large and had various buildings for bunking, events, and dining. When we arrived, we first unpacked our things and prepped our beds. We had a merienda of sandwiches and juice, and then met up together for mass.
Later, we started playing the games. The different classes (mine being basic sciences) rotated through stations with different games. Our first station was we had to army-crawl through a muddy stream and see how far up a tree we could climb with only a rope. I didn't participate in that activity, but it was fun to watch other kids do it. After the time was up, we moved on to the next station which was where 2 people had to drag 2 other people sitting in tires across a wet tarp. The tires were connected to each other with rope and each had a length of rope to be pulled with. Throughout the game, there were people who were always pullers and people who always sat on the tires. I was one of the people who sat on a tire.
After getting very wet, we had a relay race where each person had to hold a blown up balloon in their mouth holding a plastic cup. The objective was to go around the obstacles, drop the cup into the bucket while still having the balloon, and return to tag the next person as fast as possible. After that, we played a game where the 20 smallest people (myself included) stood in a line holding hands. We had to pass a hula-hoop across the entire line as many times as possible by having each person go through the hoop without breaking the line. We finished the rotations with mini soccer which only a few people were really invested in.
After showering and getting ready, we went to dinner dressed up. The girls in basic sciences had to wear red dresses. We had fun putting on makeup and styling our hair. We had dinner of milanesa and afterwards we danced some and spent the rest of the evening listening to presentations and speeches prepared by the classes. I fell asleep multiple times throughout the evening.
On Friday, we had breakfast and preformed skits. A small group from each class prepared a skit of an interpretation of the Parable of the Lost Sheep. My group told the story how close to how it was told in the Bible: a shepard had 10 sheep. Each day, the 10th sheep would run away to meet with a wolf disguised as a sheep. The sheep becomes more and more lost, until it trusts the wolf too much and is almost eaten. The shepard saves the sheep and welcomes it back into the flock. I was one of the sheep.
After all the plays, we went on a walk through the city. A very long walk. We went up and down hills and went to the nearby lake We ate lunch half way through and by the time that we got back, we were all exhausted. But, time was short and we had to quickly shower and pack. Once we had everything cleaned and together, we all met outside and socialized for the last few minutes. During that time, they announced the winners of the games. It took the pastor forever to say it, but Social Sciences won. Soon after, we got back onto the busses and drove to the school where our parents picked us up.
I had a lot of fun during the camp and I made a lot of new friends. I'm sad that I won't be able to go with my own class, but I'm thankful that I was able to experience it nonetheless.
(Sorry for the late update; I am very tired. I don't have the photos now since they weren't taken by my phone, so I'll make another post with those soon!)
Sounds like a fun weekend! I'm glad the seniors invited you to go with them so you could have the experience 🤗
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvelous adventure! How’s the communication going. Sometimes kids talk really fast. I’d love to see you in your red dress. Thanks for the update.
